I suggest that you add to the documentation (and even the scripts themselves) that the user either Removes, Renames, or Secures the INSTALL directory as to reduce the chance of issues by someone re-running the INSTALL without permission.

Agreed. I've stuck the instructions in the INSTALLING and UPGRADING file to remind people to do this.
